The island-wide strike which was scheduled to be launched by the society of registered medical officers has been called off.

The Secretary of the society, Dr. C.W.S. Kumarage noted that the decision was a result of agreements following discussions held with the Minister of Health yesterday.

However, the strike launched by the registered medical officers in the Central province continues.

Registered and assistant medical officers from the Kandy district, launched a strike on the 5th of January against the conduct of the director of Kandy provincial health services which extended to the Central province.

It was said that if appropriate solutions were not provided, the registered and assistant medical officers would to engage in an islandwide strike that would have begun today.
