Water levels in main reservoirs in the central hills are reducing rapidly.

Castlereagh and Mausekelle reservoirs that supply water to New Laxapana, Polpitiya and Wimalasurendra water reserves have recorded water levels below 40 per cent.

Meanwhile, 2361 hectors of forest reserves were destroyed in fire. Most of the damage is reported from Badulla district where 470 hectares were burnt.

Investigations have found that most of the fire were manmade.
