The Disaster Management Center requests the public to utilize electricity, water as well as food sparingly due to the prevailing dry weather conditions.

The centre stated that this is in order to prevent the adverse effects of drought that could occur.

The DMC noted that there is a possibility of crops being destroyed due to the current weather.

The DMC added that there is a significant decrease in the water levels in rivers and reservoirs.

Meanwhile the minister of power and renewable energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that all measures will be taken in order to supply electricity continuously, even if thermal electricity production has to be increased.

He stated this responding to questions raised by journalists following a function held in Colombo today...

Meanwhile, steps have been taken by the national water supply and drainage board in order to provide water for consumption needs.
