The Meteorological Department states that a change in the prevailing dry weather could be expected during this weekend.

It is reported that nearly 50 thousand persons have been affected by the prevailing dry weather.

The Disaster Management Centre stated that the highest number of persons affected by drought is reported from the Jaffna district.

In addition, the districts of Mannar, Hambantota, Trincomalee, Kandy, Gampaha, Moneragala, Badulla and Anuradhapura have also been affected by the drought.

Meanwhile, Disaster Management Centre has received complaints relating to drinking water from several other districts.

Assistant Director of the Center Pradeep Kodippili said problems relating to drinking water could be directed to the emergency number 1-1-7.

Meanwhile, Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya who addressed a ceremony at Aranayake in Mawanella today explained the government’s preparedness to face the possibility of an impending drought.

However, the MetDepartment’s Director General Lalith Chandrapala said that rains can be excepted in the island within the next few days.
