Government says it categorically rejects reports published in the Sri Lankan media stating it has agreed to 58 very dangerous conditions in order to obtain the GSP+ concession returned to the country.

Issuing a statement the Government Information Department said that the European Commission has decided to extend access to the European market to encourage the current program on reforms taking place in Sri Lanka.

The statement further says that instead of agreeing to conditions that are detrimental to the country, the present government aims at encouraging good governance through this effort.

The European Commission has proposed to provide this relief based on the government’s continued commitment towards sustainable development, human rights and good governance in Sri Lanka, the Government Information Department said.
