Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday decided to dissolve Lanka Coal Company’s board of directors, including its Chairman.

The move followed the consideration of facts submitted by the Auditor General to the Parliament’s Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy.

The auditor general presented facts regarding coal purchases made by the company between 2009 and 2016.

Accordingly, the dissolution of the entire board had been proposed, changing the composition, assigning authority and responsibility of the company to a new board of directors.

Additional Secretary to the ministry, Meril Gunathilaka has been appointed as the acting chairman of the company.

Maithri Gunaratne was the former chairman.
