Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released a report that 2016 was the Earth’s hottest year on record.

The annual global temperature record has been broken five times since the turn of the century - 2005, 2010, 2014, 2015, and 2016. We've had three years in a row of record-breaking warm temperatures.

NASA also released a report agreeing with NOAA's conclusions.

Deke Arndt, chief of the monitoring group at NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information in Ashville, NC, tells NPR that every continent and every major ocean was the warmest on record.
