Health authorities have pointed out that there is a high risk of dengue spreading in areas affected by the drought.

The authorities stated that containers used by people in drought affected areas to collect water have contributed towards the breeding of dengue mosquitoes.

Community Specialist of the Dengue Eradication Unit, Dr. Prescilla Samaraweera stated that around 2,500 dengue patients have been reported so far this year.

Furthermore she stated that a special dengue eradication program will be held on the 24th of this month.
