Thirty seven man power workers who were engaging in protests near the ministry of power and renewable energy have been arrested.

Police noted that the workers were arrested last night on charges of violating court orders requesting that the workers leave the location.

Those arrested are to be produced before the Fort Magistrates court today.

The man power movement says that if the discussion with the prime ministers public relations coordinator fails, the agitation will continue.

A member of the movement, Niwantha Wijesooriya, following a protest held last evening, noted that they are hopeful that the discussions today will give a positive outcome.

The protest march was launched yesterday demanding that the man power mechanism be abolished in all institutions.

Representatives of trade unions also attended the protest, which commenced from Colombo- fort, continued via Slave Island towards the Colpetty- Liberty roundabout.

The road leading towards temple trees was closed during the protest.
