Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama said that the remark made by Minister Rajitha Senarathna during the media briefing to inform Cabinet decisions was false.

However, Minister Samarawickrama said in a communiqué, that he had notified the President and the Prime Minister, the details about the investor ahead of the foundation laying ceremony.

Minister Senarathna told journalists yesterday that the Prime Minister participated in the foundation laying ceremony of the said tyre factory in Horana without knowing about the investor beforehand.

Minister Samarawickrama stated in his communiqué that he submitted a Cabinet paper providing the details of the project including identifying the land, incentives to be given for the project and other conditions.

At the same time, the minister said that the matter was discussed at the Cabinet subcommittees for economic management and obtained necessary approval as well.

At the same time, Minister Samarawickrama refuted the remarks made by Minister Rajitha Senarathna that the land has been given at 100 rupees an acre.

He said that the government Valuer has assessed the land for 170 million rupees, and recommended to make payments at one stretch.

However, the investor has requested the government to provide him the land under a leasing system and he informed that he would arrange necessary infrastructure facilities.

Minister Samarawickrama stated in his communiqué that the investor was allowed the leasing mechanism after assessing his contribution to be made towards the economy of the country.

He said an earlier attempt to acquire a private land was failed as the land owner objected and another land was earmarked in Horana and Cabinet approval was obtained for the land.

Minister Malik Samarawickrama who rejected minister Senarathna’s remark further stated in his communiqué that investment proposals are assessed not on the political affiliations of the investor but on the benefits to be brought about by the projects.
