The Met Department said that the present rainy conditions will cease by end of this month.

Deputy Director of Met Department, Anusha Warnasuriya said that rains up to more than 100 millimeters can be expected in some parts of the island till then.

The highest rainfall within the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am yesterday was recorded from Pussallawa Sogamaweva area which was 180.3 millimeters.

Due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the Eastern parts of the island, the water levels have risen in reservoirs in the area, Director General of Agriculture Saman Weerasinghe stated.

Due to the excessive rains that fell in Ampara District, two sluice gates of Rambakan Oya were opened yesterday evening.

This results in diverting 800 cubic feet of water per second to Maha Oya.

Further, the water level of Inginiyagala Senanayaka Samudraya has risen up to one lakh 75,000 acres feet.

The affected paddy fields and cultivation areas that went under water due to this can be seen below.
