The essential food importers association says that imported rice could be bought from the market next week onwards.

The Special Goods Tax of 15 Rupees imposed on imported rice has been reduced to 5 Rupees with effect from last midnight.

The Finance Ministry noted that the concession will be applicable for Red Rice, Naadu and Samba rice.

President Maithripala Sirisena has also reiterated that a Kilogram of imported rice cannot be sold at more than 76 Rupees per Kilogram.
