Bogala mine inter - employees’ union charges that the authorities should accept responsibility for the death of a miner, as a result of a graphite rock falling on his head.

A supervisor died last afternoon when he was at work underground, in a mine 476 meters deep.

The victim succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital.

The victim was a 42-year-old father of three, a resident of Pahalagama, Kegalle has been an employee at the Bogala graphite mine since 1966.

Following the incident, authorities temporarily shut down the Bogala Mine for security reasons.

An on-the-site investigation was carried out.

However Bogala Mine   - inter employees’ Union Deputy secretary  P. Hettiarachchi said that accidents  like this take place because authorities were not watchful over the welfare of employees.
