The Supreme Court today fixed a date to hear the revised application filed by the Army soldier, Sunil Rathnayake who was sentenced to death for the killing of 8 Tamil civilians in the Jaffna – Mirusuwil area.

The date was fixed when the case was taken up for hearing by a bench comprising five judges including Supreme Court Justice Buwaneka Aluvihara.

The petition will be examined on July 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14.

Sunil Rathnayake who was attached to the reconnaissance operations unit of the Army was sentenced to death by the Colombo Supreme Court for kidnapping and murdering civilians from the Mirusuwil area in December 2000.
