Several roads in Colombo will be closed for rehearsals and Independence Day Ceremony today (03) and tomorrow, police says.

Alternate routes were introduced for travelers.

In addition to this police announced vehicle parking areas.

Traffic plan for February 04, 2017 is as follows:

Roads that will be closed from 5.00 am to 12.00 noon

  1. From Galle road, Galle face roundabout to Old Parliament roundabout
  2. Chaithya road

Roads that will be closed from 7.00 am to 12.00 noon

  1. From Kollupitiya junction towards Galle face roundabout (residents are allowed)
  2. From Kollupitiya St.Michael's roundabout towards the Galle road (residents are allowed)
  3. From Rotunda roundabout towards Galle road (residents are allowed)
  4. From Ceramic junction and Lotus road towards Old Parliament
  5. Along the York street to Bank road (office vehicles are allowed)
  6. Ceynor Junction (in front of Fort Railway station) to CTO Junction (office vehicles are allowed)
  7. From CTO junction to Ceramic junction (office vehicles are allowed)
  8. From Makan Makar Mawatha, Uttarananda Mawatha to Galle face roundabout (office vehicles are allowed)

Roads that will be closed from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon

      11. From Gamini roundabout towards D.R.Wijewardhane Mw. (office vehicles are allowed)
      12. From Slave island (Kompannavidiya) Police rounabout towards Regal junction

  • Heavy vehicles entering and leaving Colombo via Galle road

Can enter and leave Colombo via W.A.Silva Mw, Old Havelok road, Maya roundabout, Havelok road, Thimbirigasyaya road, Baseline road and to Colombo

  • Light vehicles and buses entering and leaving Colombo via Galle road

Through Galle road, Bagathale road, R. A. De Mel Mw, Bauddhaloka Mw, Thunmulla roundabout, Thurstan road, J.O.C junction, glass house junction, Nanda motors, Nelum pokuna roundabout, Soiza rounabout, Deans road, Technical junction.

From 9.00 am- Traffic are allowed to travel from Kollupitiya junction, Piththala junction and Slave Island

Passenger buses and motor vehicles leaving Colombo are possible to travel along Olcot Mw, Technical junction, Maradana bridge junction, T.B.Jaya Mw, Ibbanwala junction, Union place, Lipton roundabout, Dharmapala Mw, F.R.Senanayake Mw, Kannangara Mw, Nanda Motors, Independant roundabout, Read Mw, Thummulla roundabout, Bauddhaloka Mw, R.A. De Mel Mw and to the Galle road
