Activities at government hospitals were disrupted today as a result of an unplanned strike that took place this morning.

Our correspondents stated that OPDs and routine clinics did not function in many hospitals including Colombo National Hospital, Kandy General Hospital, Teaching hospitals at Kalalpitiya and Kalubowila and Ratnapura General Hospital.

GMOA launched a token strike today in protest of the police tear gas attack on the demonstration launched by Medical faculty students yesterday.

Yesterday’s protest was staged against the Malabe Private Medical School.

GMOA’s Assistant Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge told our news team that his union will resort to a continuous strike unless a solution is given.
