President Maithripala Sirisena says that the reason why through the 19th amendment to the Constitution, a ministry for National Unity and Reconciliation was established and assigned to the head of state was in order to implement equality to all.

While joining this morning (03) for a multi-religious Sunday school speech contest at the BMICH he expressed these views.

President went on to say that priority must be given to fulfill responsibility in providing knowledge to children and society.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranayaka Kumaranathunga who also participated in this event said that the minorities who have been deprived of their rights for more than 70 years need to have a guarantee on this aspect.

She pointed out that this need to be guaranteed through the Constitution and it can be accomplished properly through the new constitution.

She also reiterated that there are many challenges to be faced in order to fulfill this to guarantee the rights and equality of minorities in the country.
