President Maithripala Sirisena says that we are a nation that deserves to live a prosperous life in a country where peace, justice and equality prevail.

Issuing a message in view of the Independence Day the President stated that Sri Lankans, have inherited a long history of struggles that brings forth memories of grief and glory, from the times of our Kings to that of modern democracy.

President Sirisena stated that the responsibility of strengthening the recently secured democratic freedom as well as ensuring that, enriched by indigenous wisdom, all communities could live with dignity, lies on our shoulders.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe issuing a message stated that only a path that unites all can pave the way for a stronger Sri Lanka.

The Premier also stated that during the last two years, the country has been able to achieve many steps in the right direction by restoring democratic values, rebuilding relationships with friendly nations and affirm mutual trust while focusing on revitalizing the economy.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa issuing a message in view of the Independence day stated that more than the Youth, it was the rulers of this country who need to be educated regarding the importance of the Independence Day.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth in a message on Sri Lanka’s Independence Day has extended her best wishes for the good fortune and happiness of the people of Sri Lanka in the coming year.

Mahanayaka Thero of Malwathu Chapter Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero stated that everyone should commit to gain economic development and prosperity in the country keeping unity and development of the country in foremost place and protecting one's religious beliefs and cultural identities and through improving coexistence and humanitarian morals.

Mahanayaka Thero of Sri Lanka Ramagna Maha Nikaya Most Ven. Napana Pemasiri Thero stated that all citizens should work together by promoting the national reconciliation to overcome the present issues in the country.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith stated that everyone should be devoted towards bringing out the true meaning of Independence.
