President Maithripala Sirisena stated that political stability and development can be achieved through reconciliation among ethnicities and religious coexistence.
The president expressed these views addressing the 69th Independence Day celebrations held at Galle Face Green today.
Religious leaders, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, the speaker, Ministers and Parliamentarians and foreign dignitaries graced the Independence Day celebrations held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
President Maithripala Sirisena hoisted the national flag after he was greeted by the Prime Minister and the Speaker.
Subsequent to singing the national anthem, the Chief of Defense Staff, Commanders of the Tri Forces and the Inspector General of Police escorted the President to the main podium.
President Maithripala Sirisena paid his respects to the heroes who dedicated themselves for gaining independence as well as to those who made sacrifices in the 30 year long war.
The 69th Independence Day celebrations concluded with the national anthem being sung in Tamil language.
