Discussion between UNP and SLFP presided by President and Prime Minister

A special discussion on the current state of affairs of the country has been held between the president, prime minister and representatives of SLFP and UNP at the President’s House.

Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Nimal Siripala de Silva, S.B. Dissanayake and Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna have taken part in the discussion representing the SLFP.

Representing the UNP, Ministers Malik Samarawickrama, Kabeer Hasheem, Thalatha Athukorala and Akila Viraj Kariyawasam have participated in the discussion.

It is reported that future programs of the national government too were discussed at the meeting.

Furthermore, the president, prime minister and representatives from both parties have focused their attention on the shortcomings of the government and public protests.

It is also reported that it was proposed to penalize government representatives who are in the top ten list if the charges filed against them with the Bribery and Corruption Commission are proven to be true.

Furthermore, political sources reported that the mechanism that should be adopted if a cabinet reshuffle is to take place was also discussed at the meeting.
