The Resolutions presented by two Provincial Councils on Sustainable Development Draft Bill were passed today with amendments.

12 members of the North Central Provincial Council voted for, while 7 voted against.

Chief Minister Peshala Jayarathna and Opposition Leader Anil Rathnayake introduced amendments to the proposed Bill.

They demanded that one representative from each Council should be appointed to the Executive Board of the Sustainable Development Authority proposed under the new Bill.

Meanwhile, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council passed the Bill unanimously with two amendments.

However, it demanded that every development activity within the province should be represented by the Council and the new development bill should not harm the existing development Act of the provincial council.

Sustainable Development Draft Bill was defeated by both North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils when resolutions with regard to the Bill were presented on a previous occasion.
