The 2700 year old modified Ibbankatuwa – Megalithic Cemetery will be opened tomorrow (11).

Ministry of Education said that tourists coming to see Sigiriya will be issued tickets through internet from tomorrow as well.

Steps have been taken by the Central Cultural Fund and Archeological Department to preserve ancient wall paintings in Dambulla.

The Ministry further said that over 10 years these ancient wall paintings were not preserved according to proper system.

Central Cultural Fund has also focused on fixing a set of CCTV cameras to protect the Sigiriya frescos.

The Ibbankatuwa Cemetery known as the 2700 year Stone Age Megalithic Cemetery will be useful essentially for educational purposes for school children in future, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
