Health minister to discuss SAITM with the deans of all medical faculties

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne says that discussions will be held with deans from all university medical faculties with regard to the private medical college in Malabe.

The Minister said that he had received a set of proposals prepared by faculty deans to resolve the problem regarding SAITM.

The Minister said so while participating in a discussion with a group of physicians held at the ministry yesterday.

On this occasion the Health Minister said further that with regard to the Medical College in Malabe, the problem he had was only a policy matter. 

Meanwhile addressing a public meeting held in Karandeniya yesterday minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Gas Chandima Weerakkody said that action should be taken to solve the problem only through discussion.

However 15 trade unions connected to the health sector have decided to engage in a token strike on 20th of this month, demanding the closure of the Malabe Private Medical College.

Participating in a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday all Lanka Medical Officers’ Union secretary Dr. Jayantha Bandara said that a complaint was scheduled to be submitted to the Human Rights Commission today with regard to SAITM.
