One out of 25 people who were remanded after participating in the Hambantota protest was given bail and released.

The others were remanded till 27th this month.

The suspects were produced before Hambantota Magistrate Manjula Karunarathna this morning.

Lawyers representing one of the suspects sought bail for their client to enable him to participate in his sister’s wedding.

Having considered the request, the Magistrate released the suspect on 3 surety bails of 500,000 rupees each.

The suspects are accused of engaging in the protest regardless of a Court injunction, during the inauguration of the Sri Lanka China Free Trade Zone in Mirijjiwila in Hambantota on January 7.

Meanwhile, the Magistrate told the open Courts that he observed a poster pasted on the parapet wall around the Courts premises.

The poster depicted that all political prisoners who fought against acquiring land in Hambantota should be released immediately.

The Magistrate said that he was apolitical and that he was a judicial officer, therefore he always followed the legal and other such regulations.
