The IUSF states that it will continue its agitation against SAITM despite whatever decision is implemented by the government. Addressing a media conference held in Colombo today, IUSF convener Lahiru Weerasekera said that protest marches against SAITM will start from five different places tomorrow and will reach Colombo on February 17th.

However, a series of proposals to be implemented with regard to Malabe Private Medical College and its degree programs have been prepared by the Higher Education Ministry.

The Ministry announced that these proposals received unanimous approval during a meeting held with the patronage of subject Minister Lakshman Kiriella.

Among the other participants in the meeting were the UGC chairman and the Deans of Medical Faculties of State Universities.

One of the proposals made during the discussion is to propose to SAITM to suspend its new recruitment for 6 months until its present Medical degree program is reviewed.

In addition, it has proposed to provide clinical training in government hospitals to SAITM students after they passed the final MBBS examination.

At the end of the training, it is mandatory for them to pass the licensing examination.

Meanwhile, GMOA made awareness about SAITM among patients who were present at clinics and OPDs in government hospitals today.

At the same time, students of several universities including Rajarata and Peradeniya engaged in anti SAITM protests today as well.
