The Presidential Commission which is currently probing the controversial Central Bank bond scam has decided to visit the Central Bank to observe a new bond issue which is to be held tomorrow.

In addition to the three members of the commission, a group of lawyers attached to the Attorney general’s office will also observe the issuing of bonds tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga testified before the Commission this morning.

However, the state counsels stated that they needed more time as relevant documents were only received by them this morning.

Later, the Commission decided to call Dr. Samaratunga to testify at a later stage and called Additional Director in charge of the Statistic Department of the Central Bank Dr. Mohamed Zeid to testify, as well.

Testifying before the Commission, Dr. Zeid said that a new superintendent was appointed to the Public Debt Department before the controversial bond issue.

The additional Director Mohamed, further said, that details of a bond issue are released 10 days before the issue, but that was not practiced with regard to this controversial bond issue.
