Peradeniya university students accused of ragging further remanded

The 15 senior students of the Agricultural Faculty of Peradeniya University who were remanded for ragging their juniors were further remanded today.

When the suspects were produced before the Kandy Magistrate today, police sought Court’s permission to search personal mobile phones of the suspects as to find out whether they have taken nude photographs of the victims.

Accordingly, police were permitted to check the mobile phones of raggers.

The magistrate later said that he has no authority to grant bail for the suspects and asked the lawyers appeared for the suspects to seek bail from the High Court.

The ragging incident by a group of senior students attached to the Agricultural Faculty of Peradeniya University was reported on February 19th.
