Steps were taken to delay the court hearing of the cousin brothers of Samayan. They were to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrates Court with regard to the assassination of Aruna Damith Udayanga alias Samayan.

The postponement followed a request made by the prison officers who informed court that there has been an issue concerning their security, and therefore requested for the hearing to be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, a senior spokesperson noted that a prison guard who was injured in the shooting was required to undergo a leg amputation at Colombo National Hospital yesterday.

Police have initiated fresh investigations to ascertain whether a tip off was passed on to the assailants of Samayan and other 6 victims by informants operating within the prison.

A prison spokesman stated that the three member committee appointed to probe the incident has drawn special attention to this effect.

Meanwhile, investigations carried out have revealed that 6 or possibly 7 assailants participated in the shooting spree.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody told our news team that photographs of the suspects will be released to the media today.

The mastermind behind this incident along with his accomplices have already been identified.

Meanwhile, special security has been provided at the Katunayake and Mattala airports following a tip off that some suspects have planned to flee the country using forged passports.
