Wimal Weerawansa makes a statement before courts without legal consultation

NFF leader MP Wimal Weerawansa who is currently in remand in connection with misuse of government vehicles, appeared before Courts today without legal representation being present.

He appeared on his own before courts when the Case against him under the Public Property Act was taken for hearing before Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna.

He informed courts that he wanted to make a statement with regard to his security status at the Colombo Remand Prison and the prejudice that has been directed toward him in the current Case.

Accordingly, our correspondent stated that the magistrate adjourned the Case.

Earlier, Colombo High court ordered to permit the MP to participate in parliament sub committees.

At the same time, his bail application is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Eastern Provincial Council former Chief Minister Sivanesanthurai Chandrakanthan aka Pillayan has been remanded for the 33rd time.

He was further remanded until March 20thwhen he was produced before Batticaloa magistrate M. Ganesharajah.

The former Chief Minister of The Eastern Provincial Council has been accused of murdering MP Joseph Pararajasingham at a Church in Batticaloa on December 25th, 2005.

Pillayan was arrested by the CID on October 9th, 2015.
