Forced Birth Control at Dambulla Hospital being investigated

A recent complaint on forcing contraception measures on young mothers who deliver babies at Dambulla hospital was taken into consideration by the Central Provincial Council today.

Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said that the incident is now proved to be true.

After the incident was exposed by the HIRU news team the Central Provincial Health Service Director Shanthi Samarasinghe ordered an investigation into the incident.

The Director of Dambulla Hospital Charles Nugawela said that inquiries under the investigation were started today.

The controversial gynaecologist in concern has served at the Ratnapura General Hospital before she was transferred to Dambulla.

Central Provincial Health Minister Bandula Yalegama told the media that efforts need to be made to ascertain if this particular gynaecologist had forced mothers to use birth control.
