University lecturers strike disrupts academic activities

University academic activities have come to stand still due to a token strike launched by university teachers over a salary issue.

University Lecturers Association stated that 15 universities are participating in the strike.

Several exams scheduled for today at some universities have also been affected due to the strike.

Chairman of the University Teachers Association Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri told our news team, the trade union action will continue tomorrow if a resolve is not arrived at.

Meanwhile, the Inter University Students Federation started protest marches against SAITM in 4 locations this morning.

The marches which started from Dehiwala, Sri Jayewardenepura University, Kelaniya University and Wattala town will reach Colombo Fort, where a rally will be held.
