Former central bank governor heads to the commission investigating the bond issue

Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran is scheduled to appear today for the first time, to give evidence before the Presidential Commission Inquiring into the Bonds incident, with regards to the Central Bank Bonds Issue.

The former Central Bank Governor given notice on the 8th this month to appear before the Commission.

Earlier Central Bank officials including the current Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy had appeared before the commission for giving evidence.

Meanwhile Joint Opposition MP Bandula Gunawardana appeared before the Commission yesterday to give evidence.

On this occasion the commission officials,   issuing a warning to the MP, informed him to refrain from making statements in a manner that was detrimental to the Commission’s activities.

The commission was referring  to a statement made at a news briefing on 7th this month, to the effect that he had addressed a letter to the commission requesting that he be given an opportunity to state matters known to him regarding the bonds issue incident.
