Parliament adjourned until March 21st following tense situation

The Speaker adjourned parliament until March 21st following a tense situation erupted in the house this morning.

Heated arguments followed after Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announced that MP Dallas Alahapperuma cannot be appointed as the Acting Leader of the Joint Opposition.

Addressing parliament, MP Chamal Rajapaksa said other political parties also have their own opinion therefore they should be permitted to express their independent views.

Later MPs Wimal Weerawansa and Keheliya Rambukwella also expressed their views.

Our correspondent stated the ruling MPs led by leader of the house left the chambers in protest of the overuse of time by the Joint Opposition MP.
