Petroleum trade unions forecast a Kerosene shortage

Secretary of Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Ananda Palitha says that there is an imminent shortage of kerosene in the island.

He said transportation of kerosene to certain filling stations has been already reduced.

Ananda Palitha further said that there is no storage of kerosene at the Kolonnawa Oil terminal complex and there are only 4000 tons of kerosene left at the Sapugaskanda store complex.

Our news team contacted the administrators of Sapugaskanda and Kolonnawa oil terminal complexes to comment on the statements made by the secretary.

A spokesman for the Sapugaskanda told our news team that there are sufficient stocks available at this moment.

Authorities at Kolonnawa were not able to be reached for comments

Meanwhile, a senior spokesman from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said that kerosene is not stored at Kolonnawa oil terminal due to some disputed circumstances.

He also said that there are 50 thousand tons of kerosene is available at the Sapugaskanda complex.
