The resolution presented to Northern Provincial Council with regard to the Geneva Human Rights Council report on Sri Lanka in 2015 has been passed with amendments.

The resolution was presented by Councillor M.K. Sivajilingam on March 9th.

However, Sivajilingam has presented another resolution today as well, and Opposition Leader S. Thavarasa objected it.

A tense situation erupted during the session as UPFA councillor Y. Thavanadan tore the document in the meeting.

Later, the resolution presented by Sivajilingam has been passed and, UPFA councillors A. Jayathilaka and Dharmapala Senevirathna have voted against the resolution.

Meanwhile, it is reported that a review report on the Geneva resolution on Sri Lanka has been presented to the Geneva Human Rights Council yesterday.
