State Enterprises Department said that the signing of the Corporate Memorandum of Understanding for Government Owned Businesses is scheduled to take place at the ministry of Finance today.

Issuing a communiqué the State Enterprises Department said that the Electricity Board, the Petroleum Corporation, the National Water Supplies Board, the Airport and Aviation Company as well as the Sri Lanka Ports Authority had been selected for signing the agreement.

The cabinet too has approved the signing.

The aim of the MoU is to increase contributions towards the country’s economic goals through state owned enterprises that add to the gross national production. 

The Minister of Public Enterprises Development Kabeer Hashim stated yesterday that action would be taken to protect government owned properties.

Meanwhile, Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya attending a function held at the BMICH yesterday said, that Ceylon Electricity Board shares will not be sold.
