North Western new education director resigns an hour after being appointed

Sirimewan Podi Nilame who assumed duties as the new director of education for the North western province yesterday was suspended from service by the north western province governor, Amara Piyasili Rathnayake, two hours after the appointment. 

It has been reported that he had assumed duties around 9.45 am and resigned from the post upon notification by the governor around 11.45 am. 

The appointment for the post following an interview was held by the north western government service commission. 

Podi Nilame was previously the Kurunegala Zonal director of education.

He had received approval from the governor for the appointment and assumed duties yesterday. 

However, when our news team contacted, the north western province governor he noted that a discussion is being held regarding the issue of the resignation.
