Navy says that the hijackers of the ship carrying crude oil from Djibouti to Mogadishu, Somalia, with 8 Sri Lankan crew members on board, were not well known pirates. 

Lt. Commander Chaminda Walakuluge stated that the ship is currently heading towards Alula coast in Somaliya. 

The Navy further noted it has been reported that the Sri Lankans on board have not been harmed. 

Discussions with the international joint maritime corps are being held in order to rescue the ship. 

According to the Navy Media Spokesman Lieutenant Chaminda Walakuluge, the Captain of the hijacked vessel, Nicolas Anthony, is a resident of Crow Island.

Others in captive are: Ruwan Sampath from Mathugama, Dileepa Ranaweera from Galle, Sunil Perera from Kandana, Lahiru Indunil from Akuressa, Jayantha Kalubowila from Horana, Janaka Samendra from point dondra  and A. Shanmugam from Negombo.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harsha De Silva said that the Sri Lankan government is also taking necessary action.
