Somali security forces have launched a special operation to free the oil tanker hijacked by Somali pirates.

Foreign media reported security forces have commenced an attack on the pirates.

Eight Sri Lankan crew members are being held hostage at an anchorage off the north coast of Puntland, Somalia, close to Alula.

The ship, transporting oil, was en route from Djibouti to Mogadishu, when a distress signal was sent, stating the vessel was being approached by high-speed boats on Monday (13).
