The deputy minister of foreign affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva says, rescuing the ship which was hijacked by Somali pirates with 8 Sri Lankan crew members on board is a great diplomatic triumph.

Expressing his views to Hiru news, the minister noted that due to this the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean is augmented.

The diplomatic mission to rescue the Aries 13 ship with the Sri Lankan crew on board commenced, when the captain of the ship made contact with Hiru.

Following this, President Maithreepala Sirisena informed the Navy commander to take necessary action.

It is noteworthy that the diplomatic discussions paved the way towards successful rescue efforts with no violence.
