The highest status at 2017 National Honours ‘Sri Lanka Abhimanya award’ was given to late Pandith Amaradeva.

The award ceremony was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Nelum Pokuna Theater yesterday where national honours were accorded to 89 distinguish personalities. They were given the award for rendering great serviced to the island during the past 12 years.

National honours Sri Lanka Ranjana; which is considered the second highest honour, awarded to non-nationals for distinguished service to Sri Lanka of a highly meritorious nature will also be presented at this ceremony.

Those selected were chosen from 426 applications received and the nominations were inspected by an intellectual panel.

According to the National Honours Act 1986, the list of awardees will be gazetted.
