The Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing the controversial Central Bank bond scam, Supreme court Judge K.T. Chithrasiri said that nobody will be found guilty by the Commission.

He said that the Commission is only engaged in a fact finding mission.

He stated this in response to a matter pointed out by the lawyer who appeared for former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.

Former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran was present in the inquiry room to observe how Secretary of the Monetary Board H.A. Karunarathna is testifying before the Commission today.

The lawyer appeared for Arjuna Mahendran told the Commission that various media reports have been published about his client and, if he is found guilty before the Commission, it would be unfair for his client.

However, Commission Chairman K.T.Chithrasiri said that Arjuna Mahendran can explain his side of the story when he is summoned before the Commission.

Meanwhile, the Senior Solicitor General strongly objected when Arjuna Mahendran’s lawyer requested the Commission to order the Central Bank to release the minutes of Monetary Board meetings conducted during the tenure of Arjuna Mahendran as the Central Bank governor.
