Medical Superintendent at Puttalam Hospital Sumith Attanayake says that a virus fever with disease symptoms similar to Dengue fever is spreading in Kalpitiya and Puttalam.

The Superintendent said that as a consequence of this virus, a sudden decrease in the blood platelet count takes place.

Our correspondent said that while this virus fever has spread to Puttalam town and surrounding areas, Puttalam Hospital Physiology Unit and the Children’s Unit are severely overcrowded with patients.

Reports say that due to this, patients are lying on benches with great discomfort.

However Puttalam Hospital Medical Superintendent Sumith Attanayake told our news team that each patient coming to the hospital was being examined and provided treatment with the utmost diligence.
