The bodies of three Sri Lankan pilgrims who died while they were on a pilgrimage to India, were brought to the country.

Police stated that two bodies were received yesterday while the third was received at the Katunayake airport on the 23rd.

It is reported that the three individuals are from the same group of pilgrims.

It is believed that the individuals had died following illnesses resulting from extremely cold climatic conditions.

The group has embarked on the pilgrimage organized by a tour operator in Kegalle on the 13th.

A 63 year old woman from Dambaragolla – Kurunegala had died during the pilgrimage on the 20th.

Her autopsy had revealed that the cause of death was a heart attack.   

It is reported that the tour operators have charged around 300,000 rupees from her relatives to bring the body to the country.

Another woman of the same group who is also a resident of Kurunegala, had died on the 22nd.

A 65 year old unmarried man of Walasmulla – Matara too had died on the same day.

Our correspondents at the airport stated that their bodies were received last afternoon.

Relatives of the deceased too had arrived at the airport yesterday.
