Head of Prison Hospital informed the Court today that NFF leader MP Wimal Weerawansa cannot be produced before Courts due to his poor health status.

The above statement was made during the case hearing that was taken up in court today, regarding a bribe of 4.2 million rupees that was offered to NFF media spokesman Mohamed Muzammil, seeking his support for Common candidate Sarath Fonseka, during the 2010 presidential election.

The case was filed by the Attorney General and taken before High Court Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunarathna.

The Attorney General has taken action against two defendants including deputy minister Mayon Mustapha.

MP Wimal Weerawansa has been named as the 18th witness of the plaintiff’s faction in this Case.

All witnesses had been summoned today as the case was scheduled to be heard.

However, the head of the prison hospital produced a medical report, informing the Magistrate that Weerawansa is unable to be present in Court.

Weerawansa has launched a fasting protest, demanding that he be granted bail. He was hospitalized yesterday after doctors recommended that his health status had declined.
