It has been reported that the Judicial Service Commission has decided that the recommendations made to appoint Batticaloa Bar Association member Ramanathan Kannan as a High Court Judge is no longer valid.

The decision was made when the Judicial Commission met yesterday.

Soon after the meeting concluded, the president was informed of the decision.

The Judicial Service Association recently educated the Judicial Service Commission that the recommendation to appoint Kannan to the new post cannot be accepted due the incorrect procedure that was adopted and because of certain individuals abusing the official name of the Bar Association.

The Judicial Service Association has decided to call a special general meeting to take a decision against allowing Kannan to serve in the post further despite these circumstances.

A spokesman for the association stated the special general meeting will be held on April 1st at 2pm at the Colombo District Court with the participation of all judges of lower courts throughout the island.
