Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations W.D.J Seneviratne says that life insurance will be made compulsory for private institutions and sites with over 10 workers.

The decision has been taken following several accidents which have taken place in sites and institutions.

The minister added that regulations and laws will be implemented with regard to the this in future.

A maximum compensation of 550 thousand is paid upon the death of a worker owing to an accident.

However, he added that this would be amended and compensation would be doubled.
