Foreign Ministry of Qatar has urged its nationals not to travel to Sri Lanka due to health reasons.

A Qatar Foreign Ministry statement said that an official source at the Department of Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry stated that that the Sri Lankan official authorities confirmed the spread of H1N1 in Sri Lanka.

The source urged Qatari nationals not to travel to Sri Lanka except in cases of extreme necessity until health conditions improve.

However, our news team enquired about this from Health Services Director General Dr. Jayasundera Bandara.

He said that the H1N1 virus has not developed up to an epidemic level.

He further said foreign visitors should not be scared of unfounded fears.

Meanwhile Central Provincial Health Service Directress Dr. Shanthi Samarasinghe says that 115 H1N1 patients have been identified in the province.

Dr. Shanthi Samarasinghe also said that 17 patients have died of this viral flu and most of the victims due to deficiencies in their body immune system.
