The Ceylon electricity board Joint Trade Union launched a one day token strike since midnight yesterday demanding the elimination of discrepancies in the salary scale and against the suppression of workers.

The convener of the union, Ranjan Jayalal noted that the strike is successful.

However, the Ceylon electricity board trade union front is not participating in the trade union action.

We inquired about the matter from the national organizer of the union, Priyantha Wickramasinghe.

Meanwhile the strike which was scheduled to be launched by nurses, paramedics and supplementary to the medical professionals based on 8 demands has been temporally halted.

The Secretary to the Joint Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine Dharmakeerthi Epa noted that the strike was halted for 48 hours following discussions held last evening with Minister of finance, Ravi Karunanayake and Health minister Rajitha Senaratne.
