Minor fire breakouts in the Danila ship

The Navy says that it is impossible to enter into the M.S.C Danila container ship belonging to the state of Panama in which a fire erupted while sailing in close proximity to the Sri Lankan maritime border.

The reason for this being minor fire eruptions reported within the ship.

The ship has been currently anchored ten nautical miles from the Colombo harbour.

It has been reported that the fire had spread due to an inflammable components amongst the containers on the ship.

The Sagara ship belonging to the Sri Lanka Navy, Tug boats Ravana and Maha wewa of the Colombo port authority as well as Indian coast guard ships Shoor, Darshak and Garrier which were on a friendly visit at the Colombo harbour engaged in efforts to douse the fire.

In addition, the Navy added that the Bell 212 helicopter of the Navy as well as the Indian helicopter Chethak joined the operation.
